MARY LEE COOK

RICHLAND Mary Lee Cook died Saturday, March 31, 2001, at Pleasant Hill Nursing Home in Jackson. She was 72.

A native of Warren County, Mrs. Cook was a longtime resident of Rankin County. She was a member of New Apostolic Life Church in Jackson and a former member of First Baptist in Richland.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Jack Cook.

Survivors include her daughter, Lorri Davis of Taylorsville; a son, Bobby Cook of Brandon; four sisters, Frances Sibley, Patsy Russell and Thelma Leist, all of Vicksburg, and Dorothy Childers of Cordele, Ga.; one brother, Billy Parker of Vicksburg; and a grandson, Daniel Davis of Taylorsville.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Ott and Lee Funeral Home in Brandon. Burial will be at 4 p.m. at Cedar Hill Cemetery in Vicksburg.

CURTIS LEE DENT JR.

Services for Curtis Lee Dent Jr. will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday at W.H. Jefferson Funeral Home with the Rev. Donald Goodman officiating. Burial will follow at Cedar Hill Cemetery.

Mr. Dent died Wednesday, March 28, 2001, at ParkView Regional Medical Center. He was 69.

Mr. Dent was a retired employee of Waterways Experiment Station and worked for Baker Security as a security guard. He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean Conflict. He was a member of the American Legion Tyner-Ford Post 213.

He was preceded in death by his father, Curtis L. Dent Sr.

He is survived by his wife, Abbie M. Davis Dent of Vicksburg; his mother, Ceola Caston Dent Ward of Bolton; three sons, Glen D. Dent, Larry J. Dent and Stanley E. Dent, all of Vicksburg; five daughters, Carolyn R. Dent, Barbara Ann Judge, Beverly G. Scott and Joyce Dent, all of Vicksburg, and Audrey C. Smith of Fort Knox, Ky.; a brother, Alonzo Caston of Bolton; 13 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; nieces, nephews and other relatives.

CLYDE JUDGE SR.

Services for Clyde Judge Sr. will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at W.H. Jefferson Funeral Home with the Rev. Walter Weathersby officiating. Burial will follow at Cedar Hill Cemetery.

Mr. Judge died Monday, March 26, 2001, in Chicago. He was 59.

A former resident of Vicksburg, Mr. Judge lived in Chicago for a number of years. He was a member of Mount Alban M.B. Church.

He was preceded in death by his father, Joe Judge Sr.; and two brothers, Melvin Judge and Freddie Judge.

He is survived by his mother, Jeanette Judge of Vicksburg; two sons, Clyde Judge Jr. and Terrance Judge, both of Vicksburg; two daughters, Jacqueline Judge and Deborah Jones, both of Vicksburg; three brothers, Joe Judge Jr of Chicago, Edward Charles Judge of Hawthorne, Calif., and Kenny Judge of Jacksonville, Fla.; six sisters, Maggie Reece of Detroit, Clementine Jones of Saginaw, Mich., Pauline Charles of Walnut Hills, Calif., Sadie Kimbrew of Carson, Calif., Ruby Judge of Hawthorne and Janice Wildee of Vicksburg; eight grandchildren; nieces, nephews and other relatives.

BEN PERKINS SR.

CLEVELAND, Ohio Ben Perkins Sr. died Thursday, March 29, 2001, at Hospice of Western Reserve in Cleveland, Ohio. He was 77.

Mr. Perkins was a Vicksburg native.

He is survived by his wife, Fannie Perkins of Cleveland; two sons, Ben Perkins Jr. and Michael Tucker; four stepsons, Major Tucker, Melvin Tucker, Marvin Tucker and Marc Tucker; three stepdaughters, Myra Wilson, Marsha Murphy and Merle Hatcher; grandchildren; great-grandchildren; and other relatives and friends.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Cummings & Davis Funeral Home, 13201 Euclid Ave., in Cleveland. Burial will follow at Cleveland Memorial Gardens.

GUSTER MAE SHELBY-STERLING

DETROIT Guster Mae Shelby-Sterling died Friday March 23, 2001, in Detroit. She was 65.

A native of Vicksburg, Mrs. Sterling attended Vicksburg Public Schools. She lived in Detroit most of her life.

She is survived by her husband, Richard Sterling of Detroit; a daughter, Shirley Sterling of Detroit; her parents, Brent and Charlotte Shelby of Vicksburg; three brothers, Brent Shelby Jr. of California, and Michael Shelby and Charles Shelby, both of Vicksburg; three sisters, Rose Marie Shelby of Detroit, Henrietta Shelby and Brenda Shelby, both of Vicksburg; two grandchildren and other relatives.

Services were March 28 in Detroit under the direction of Swanson Funeral Home.
