Vikings finish 11th; Flashes in 1A hunt

[05/09/01] Warren Central didn’t find its stroke until the second day of the Class 5A state tournament, but St. Aloysius is still in the title hunt going into Wednesday’s final round in the 1A tournament.

Led by Edward Russell’s 78 and Blake Edwards’ 79, the Vikings fired a second-round 319 to finish 11th overall. The team combined for a 350 Monday. Host Olive Branch won the title while Vicksburg High finished 15th. Bill Hassell led the Gators with an 84 Tuesday and Nade Ellis shot 85.

At Co-Lin, the Flashes trailed West Union by four strokes (333-337) going into Wednesday’s final round. John Caldwell and Beau Theobald both fired 83s for St. Al, which led Mercy Cross by 18 strokes.
