[07/10/01] A Ruston teen drowned last week while fishing on a Tensas Parish lake with his grandfather, officials in St. Joseph said.
Tensas Parish Sheriff Ricky Jones said Brandon Taylor, 16, had been fishing from a boat on Lake Bruin Thursday around 11 a.m., when he suffered an apparent seizure and fell into the water. Jones said rescue attempts were futile.
He was not wearing a life jacket, Jones said.
Brandon was taken to Franklin Parish Hospital in Winnsboro where he was pronounced dead on arrival, said Tensas Parish Coroner John Roberson. He said the cause of the seizure was not known, but that it appeared Brandon died from drowning.
The body was taken to Jackson for an autopsy, and results were expected today, Roberson said.
Lake Bruin, an oxbow lake in east-central Tensas Parish, is a popular recreational spot frequented by residents of Louisiana and Mississippi.
