CEDRIC A. ARCHER

Cedric A. Archer died from an accidental drowning Monday, July 9, 2001, in Hardy, Ark. He was 29.

A 1990 graduate of Vicksburg High School, Mr. Archer was a blackjack dealer with Horseshoe Casino in Tunica. He was a member of Greater Oak Grove M.B. Church.

He was preceded in death by his son, Corey Archer; and other relatives, including Henry Lyons Sr., Willie B. Lyons, James Archer and Maggie Archer.

Survivors include his mother, Alberta Archer Lyons of Vicksburg; his father, L.J. Lyons Sr. of Vicksburg; three brothers, James C. Archer, L.J. Lyons Jr. and Reginald T. Lyons, all of Vicksburg; and other relatives.

W.H. Jefferson Funeral Home has charge of the arrangements.

MICHAEL ASHMORE

STAR CITY, Ark. Michael “Ray” Ashmore died Monday, July 9, 2001, at Drew Memorial Hospital in Monticello, Ark. He was 41.

Born in Pine Bluff, Ark., Mr. Ashmore lived in Star City, Ark. He was a private-duty care giver in Dallas, Texas, and a member of First United Pentecostal Church in Pine Bluff.

He is survived by his father and stepmother, James and Marilyn Ashmore of Grady, Ark.; his mother and stepfather, Bettye and Haven Bruce of Vicksburg; seven brothers, Jimmy Ashmore and Joey Ashmore, both of Star City, Tony Bailey of Vicksburg, Kevin Ashmore of Glendale, Ark., Shane Bailey of Edwards, Kenton Ashmore of Pine Bluff and Scott Bruce of Gasha; four sisters, Sonja McGriff of Star City, Kim McKnight of Bolton, Millie McClain of White Hall, Ark., and Angela Buchann of Pascagoula; and other relatives.

Services were at 3 p.m. Wednesday at Griffin Funeral Home in Star City with Billy Burks officiating. Burial will follow at Prosperity Cemetery in Cleveland County, Ark.

Pallbearers were David Green, Thomas Linzy, Ricky Linzy, Shawn Kirkley, Robert Gipson and Jeff Holloway.

Honorary pallbearers were Wayne Bailey, Rodney Ashmore, Carroll Reynolds and Jimmy Carroll Griffin.
