BENTON, La. Natalie Buck Brownlee died Tuesday, July 24, 2001, at her home in Benton. She was 73.

Born in Vicksburg, Mrs. Brownlee had lived in Benton for 30 years. She was a graduate of St. Francis Xavier Academy and was a legal secretary.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Mack Brownlee; her parents, Christine and Solomon Stewart Buck; and a sister, Amelia Mincey.

Survivors include two daughters, Jean Rice of Bossier City and Susan Wright of Benton; two sisters, Dorothy Brooks and Elizabeth King, both of Vicksburg; four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Services were Thursday at Roseneath Bossier Funeral Home with the Rev. Wayne Craig officiating. Burial followed at Lay Cemetery in Benton.


Gary M. Jordan Sr. died Friday, July 27, 2001, at his home. He was 52.

Mr. Jordan was born in Magee and had been a Vicksburg resident for the past 30 years. He retired as captain from the Vicksburg Fire Department after 22 years of service.

He was a charter member of the Mississippi Firefighter Memorial Burn Center in Greenville and the Macedonia Hunting Club. He owned and operated Gary’s Outboard Repairs. He was of the Baptist faith.

He was preceded in death by his father, Cordis O. Jordan Sr.; a son, Michael Timothy Graves; his stepfather, Houston E. Jernigan; and his stepmother, Ann Jordan.

Survivors include his wife, H. Renee Jordan of Vicksburg; two sons, Gary M. Jordan II of Brandon and Jonathan Daniel Jordan of Vicksburg; one daughter, Shannon Whitehead of Redwood; his mother, Ruby Jernigan of Vicksburg; two brothers, Cordis O. Jordan of Shuqualak and Ronald Jordan of Biloxi; two sisters, Phyllis Foster of Vicksburg and Elizabeth Ivy of Tallulah; and six grandchildren.

Services will be at 4 p.m. Sunday at Fisher-Riles Funeral Home with Dr. John G. McCall officiating.

Visitation will be from 2 p.m. Sunday until the service at the funeral home.

Pallbearers will be Jerry Stroud, Dr. Anita Tribble, Whitney Doiron, Betty Boatner, Dr. Steven Zachow, Dr. Martin Newcomb, the Vicksburg Fire Department, the River Region case managers department, Ladies III Bible class, members of Macedonia Hunting Club, Dr. Carroll McCloud and Dr. Daniel Mecca.

Alma Reed Sims

Funeral services for Alma Peninih Reed Sims, 93, who died Wednesday, July 25, 2001, at ParkView Regional Medical Center, will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at St. Peter’s M.B. Church in Utica with the Rev. Larry Clark officiating, assisted by Rev. Rodney Divinity. Burial will be in the church cemetery with Thompson Funeral Home, Inc. of Port Gibson in charge of the arrangements.

Visitation will be today from 1 until 6 at the Thompson Funeral Home Chapel, and Sunday from 12:30 p.m. until service time at the church.

A retired school teacher, Mrs. Sims was a member and choir member at St. Peter’s M.B. Church in Utica.

She is survived by a daughter, Alfreda Jones of Las Vegas; a daughter-in-law, Delois Sims of Vicksburg; and a number of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends, including grandson Edward E. Divinity.
