LENA J. LEIST

Lena J. Leist died Friday, Aug. 10, 2001, at St. Dominic’s Hospital in Jackson. She was 87.

A native of Houston, Mrs. Leist had lived in Vicksburg since 1927 and had lived in Madison since 1993. She was a graduate of Vicksburg Infirmary School of Nursing, a registered nurse and active in professional nursing associations during her career. She was a former member of Bowmar Avenue Baptist Church and a member of Broadmoor Baptist Church in Madison.

She was preceded in death by her parents, J.J. and Lily Thompkins Jones; her husband, Richard D. Leist; her sister, Dorothy J. Bourke; and her brother, Billy Jones.

Survivors include her sister Jettye J. Markham of Denham Springs, La.; a daughter Betty “Cindy” Kitchens of Madison; a granddaughter, Kim Kitchens Costello of Booneville, Miss.; a grandson, Jimmy Kitchens of Jackson; and one great-granddaughter.

Services were at 11 a.m. Monday at Fisher-Riles Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Terry White, pastor of Bowmar Avenue Baptist Church, officiating. Burial followed at Cedar Hill Cemetery.

CAROLYN J. KING QUIN

Carolyn J. King Quin died Saturday, Aug. 11, 2001, at Mississippi Baptist Medical Center in Jackson. She was 59.

Born in Lincoln County and former resident of Vicksburg, Mrs. Quin was a member of the Pentecostal faith and attended New Life Apostolic Church in Summit. She was a retired child-care worker for Mississippi Children’s Home in Jackson for more than 12 years.

She was preceded in death by her parents, James Martin King Sr. and Ethel Mohon King, her brother, Kenneth R. King and two sisters, Francis Miller and Helen Louise Slemaker.

Survivors include her husband, Philip C. Quin of McComb; three sons, Richard Van Norman of Mississippi, Craig Allen Stewart of Jackson and Tony Cardile of Memphis; one daughter, Michelle Cardile of Brandon; one stepson, Randy Quin of Brandon; one stepdaughter, Robyn Quin of Vancleave, Miss.; one brother, James M. King Jr. of Bogue Chitto; two sisters, Joyce K. Martin of the Felders Campground community and Marilyn K. Thornhill of McComb; and eight grandchildren.

Services were at 10 a.m. Monday at New Life Apostolic Church in Summit with the Rev. Kenneth Pattern officiating.

Catchings Funeral Home in McComb is in charge of arrangements.

SELIA KEYS

Selia Keys died Saturday, Aug. 11, 2001, in Vicksburg. She was 60.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Joseph Clavelle and Mary Lee Toven; and her brother, Roy Clavelle.

Survivors include her brother, Lester Clavelle; two sisters, Julia Mae Jones of Garland, Texas, and Ida Mae Eastman of Dallas, Texas; and 29 grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren and nieces, nephews, cousins, uncles and aunts.
