Angel, Bryan help Lady Eagles blast River Oaks, 15-1

[9/11/2001]Betsy Bryan tossed a three-hitter and struck out seven as Porters Chapel Academy blasted River Oaks, 15-1, on Monday.

Bryan also had a pair of hits, including a double and an RBI, as the Lady Eagles (2-3) got their second win in their first season of fast-pitch.

Courtney Angel had three hits and two RBIs, Amy Rutledge had two hits and Lindsey McCool had a two-run double for PCA, which erupted for six runs in the fourth inning for an 8-0 lead. The Lady Eagles tacked on seven more runs over the last two innings.

“We’re finally getting to where we can hit that faster ball,” PCA coach Liz Gullett said.

Bryan pitched three shutout innnings before the Monroe, La., team managed its run in the fourth.

“This was probably our best game,” Gullett said, adding that she switched some people to different positions. “The defense was a lot better.”

The Lady Eagles will be at Benton Academy for a doubleheader today at 4. They will host Manchester in a makeup game at Culkin Wednesday at 3:30 p.m.
