[12/10/01] Clinton scored two first-half goals and added the clincher on a deflection in the second half to beat Warren Central Monday night, 3-1.
WC’s Amie Jones scored on a direct kick to cut it to 2-1 in the second half, but a Clinton shot deflected off the foot of WC keeper Courtney Hubert. Hubert had eight saves in the game.
“I think we had possession of the ball more, but they had some pretty runs and they finished on them,” WC coach Holly Lane said. “If you were to watch the game, it didn’t look like they overpowered us.”
Lane added that Monday’s match was a good chance to scout the Lady Arrows, a division rival that WC (4-3-2) will host on Jan. 22. Monday’s game did not count in the division standings.
“It gave us a chance to see what we have to do to stack up to them, because we’ve switched some people around to different positions,” Lane said. “Once we figure it out, we’ll be fine. It’s just a matter of time.”
WC hosts Brandon today at 5:30.
