HELEN CHRISTINE BALL

COOKEVILLE, Tenn. Helen Christine Ball died Tuesday, July 2, 2002, at Cookeville Regional Medical Center. She was 72.

Miss Ball was born in Muncie, Ind.

She was preceded in death by her parents Orville and Jene Ball; and a daughter, Carolyn Ball.

She is survived by two daughters, Sandy Hale of Cookeville and Terri Harper of Vicksburg; her sister, Barbara Franklin of Crossville, Tenn.; five grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Services were Wednesday at Harris Cemetery in Cookeville with Bobby Davis officiating. Burial followed under the direction of Whitson Funeral Home of Cookeville.

HOWARD G. CHAPPELL

Services for Howard G. Chappell will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Riles Funeral Home chapel with Tim Brown, associate pastor of First Presbyterian Church, officiating. Burial will follow at Cedar Hill Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 4 until 6 tonight at the funeral home.

Mr. Chappell died Monday, July 8, 2002, at River Region Medical Center. He was 78.

A native of Summit County, Ohio, Mr. Chappell had lived in Vicksburg since 1988. He attended the University of Akron and was a graduate of the Pensacola Naval Academy. He served in the Coast Guard as an air-sea rescue pilot during World War II. He lived for a number of years in Singapore where he was employed with Goodyear Tire and Rubber Company for 42 years as manager-director of Goodyear’s Orient Company, P.T.E.

He was a member of the Army-Navy Club, the American Legion and Lambda Chi Alpha Fraternity. He was a Presbyterian.

Survivors include his wife, Norma J. Chappell of Vicksburg; his daughter, Rae J. Rufus of Edgewater, Fla.; four grandchildren; and other relatives, including Robert Rufus of Edgewater.

Pallbearers will be Charles Gore, William Strong, J.V. Teague, Jim Walsh, Steve Simons and Robert Rufus.

Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society, 1380 Livingston Lane, Jackson, MS 39213.

CHARLES EDWARD HAMMILL

CASEYVILLE, Miss. Charles Edward Hammill died Wednesday, July 10, 2002, at his home in Caseyville, Miss. He was 50.

A welder, Mr. Hammill served in the Army from 1969 until 1979. He was a veteran of the Vietnam War and attended Beech Grove Baptist Church.

He is survived by his wife, Beverly Jordan Hammill of Caseyville; one son, Charlie Hammill of Madison; one daughter, Michelle Herrod of Vicksburg; four brothers, Jack Hammill and Grady Hammill, both of Indiana, Jay Hammill of Wyoming and Billy Hammill of Lafayette, La.; two sisters, Janice Ross of Louisville, Ky., and Peggy Matthews of Florence; and four grandchildren.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Beech Grove Baptist Church in Claiborne County. Burial will follow at Bethel Cemetery in Lincoln County under the direction of Glenwood Funeral Home.

Visitation will be from 4 until 8 p.m. Friday at the church.

ADDIE LEWIS

Addie Lewis died Tuesday, July 9, 2002, at Vicksburg Convalescent Home. She was 96.

Mrs. Lewis was a Jehovah’s Witness.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Luther Lewis; her mother, Pink London; her brother, Hosie Thomas; and a sister, Classie Mae Thomas.

She is survived by her son, Hezekiah Lewis of Vicksburg; her sister, Celestine Moore of Vicksburg; grandchildren; great-grandchildren; and other relatives.

W.H. Jefferson Funeral Home has charge of the arrangements.

JAMES J. SAKULIN

James J. “Jim” Sakulin died Tuesday, July 10, 2002, at River Region Medical Center. He was 58.

A native of Iowa, Mr. Sakulin had lived in Vicksburg since 1958. He was retired from the U.S. Army.

He is preceded in death by his parents; and a brother.

He is survived by his wife, Kay Cobb Sakulin of Vicksburg; two brothers; and three sisters.

Fisher-Riles Funeral Home has charge of arrangements.

KEN E. SHARP JR.

PRESTON Ken E. Sharp Jr. died Monday, July 8, 2002, at Rush Foundation Hospital in Meridian. He was 57.

Born in Mobile, Ala., Mr. Sharp had lived in Arizona. He was a former resident of Vicksburg where he owned and operated E&S Cabinet Shop. He had lived in Neshoba County since 1988. He was of the Baptist faith.

He is survived by his son, Ken Sharp Jr. of Vicksburg; his daughter, Tonya Taylor of Gilbert, Ariz.; his mother, Gladys R. Sharp of Tallulah; his sister, Carolyn Prince of Tallulah; four grandchildren; and other relatives, including Jeanette Whitten of Preston.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Glenwood Funeral Home with Dr. Gordon Sansing officiating. Burial will follow at Cedar Hill cemetery.

Visitation will be from 5 until 8 tonight at the funeral home.

Pallbearers will be Bobby Middleton, Greg Evans, Ralph Allison, Walter Tedepon, Stephan Kaskie and Cliffton Lee.
