LAURA BROWN ANDERSON

Laura Brown Anderson died Tuesday, Aug. 6, 2002, at River Region Medical Center. She was 78.

A homemaker, Mrs. Anderson was a member of Bethlehem M.B. Church, Wisdom Court No. 20 Order of Eastern Star and Electa Chapter No. 5.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Jack Brown Sr. and Mary McNair Brown; four brothers, Henry Brown, Sam Brown, Whitney Pearlie Brown and Claude Brown; and two sisters, Annie Brown Ward and Lula Mae Brown Stampley.

She is survived by 10 sons, Eugene Anderson Jr., James Anderson, Austin Anderson, Curtis Anderson, Melvin Anderson, Carl Anderson, Howard Anderson and David Anderson, all of Vicksburg, Larry Anderson of Aiken, S.C., and Archie Lacey of Santa Monica, Calif.; five daughters, Mary L. Anderson, Erma Lewis, Carrol Anderson and Lula Butler, all of Vicksburg, and Barbara Smith of Lithonia, Ga.; three brothers, Charlie Brown and Robert Clark, both of Vicksburg, and Jack Brown Jr. of Inglewood, Calif.; grandchildren; great-grandchildren; and great-great-grandchildren.

W.H. Jefferson Funeral Home has charge of the arrangements.

BEVERLY R. ELMORE BAGGETT

JACKSON Beverly R. Elmore Baggett died Friday, Aug. 2, 2002, at St. Dominic Memorial Hospital in Jackson. She was 56.

A native of Vicksburg, Mrs. Baggett was a member of Zion Travelers M.B. Church in Jackson.

She was preceded in death by her father, Wade Hamilton.

She is survived by her husband, L.C. Baggett of Hammond, Ind.; three daughters, Wendy Farmer, Jatonda Smith and Katrina Banyard, all of Jackson; two sons, Rodney Baggett and Arnold Baggett, both of Jackson; her mother and stepfather, Ethel G. Elmore Carter and L.C. Carter of Chicago; three brothers, Thomas Hamilton of Houston, Texas, Wade Hamilton Jr. of New Orleans and Jimmy Hami Hon of Hahnville, La.; five sisters, Carolyn Allen, Shirley Chopin, Barbra Hamilton and Mary Pierre, all of Marrero, La., and Wanda Polite of Los Angeles; her grandmother, Ethel B. Elmore of Vicksburg; and other relatives.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Zion Travelers M.B. Church in Jackson. Burial will follow at Garden Memorial Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 7 until 8 p.m. Friday at Westhaven Funeral Home in Jackson.

ALBERTA BUNCH

Services for Alberta Bunch will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Mount Zion No. 4 M.B. Church with the Rev. Henry Mayfield officiating. Burial will follow at Cedar Hill Cemetery.

Mrs. Bunch died Friday, Aug. 2, 2002. She was 76.

She was a retired domestic worker.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Mitchell Davis and Mary Louise Banks.

She is survived by her husband, Willie Bunch of Vicksburg; and one sister, Rosie Young of Milwaukee, Wis.

HERMAN COOPER JR.

DELTA CITY Herman “Felon” Cooper Jr. died Wednesday, Aug. 7, 2002, at his home in Delta City. He was 38.

Mr. Cooper was a native of Greenville and had lived in Delta City most of his life. He was graduate of Deer Creek High School. He was a member of First United Methodist Church of Hollandale.

He is survived by his wife, Judy Cooper of Delta City; his son, Cody Allen Cooper of Delta City; his stepdaughter, Paige Welch of Baytown, Texas; two stepsons, Jeff Steed of Baytown and Tracy Steed of Muldrow, Okla.; his mother, Mary Ann Cooper of Greenville; his sister, Chris Boykin of Delta City; his paternal grandmother, Christine Cooper of Rolling Fork; and seven stepgrandchildren.

Services will be at 3 p.m. Saturday at First Methodist Church in Hollandale. Burial will follow at Hollandale Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 5 until 8 p.m. Friday at Glenwood Funeral Home in Rolling Fork.

ELEANOR ALICE HUTCHINSON FANT

BATON ROUGE Eleanor Alice Hutchinson Fant died Saturday, Aug. 3, 2002, in Baton Rouge. She was 105.

Mrs. Fant was a native and longtime resident of Vicksburg. She co-owned and operated The Flower Box on Monroe Street with her partners, Lou Hovious Houchins and Audrey Hovious Sheffield. She was a member of Crawford Street United Methodist Church.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Gordon Preston Fant Sr.; her son, Gordon Preston Fant Jr.; her sister, Julia Hutchinson Alexander; and two brothers, John C. Hutchinson Jr. and T. Gregory Hutchinson.

She is survived by her daughter-in-law, Lorene Jeffers Fant of Jacksonville, Fla.; two granddaughters, Karla Fant Gilmer of Jacksonville and Tinker Fant Payne of Tyler, Texas; two great-grandchildren; and other relatives.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Glenwood Funeral Home with the Rev. Geoffrey Joyner officiating. Burial will follow at Cedar Hill Cemetery.

Visitation will be from noon Saturday until the service at the funeral home.

CORETHA E. MILLER

Services for Coretha E. Miller will be at 11:30 a.m. Saturday at Cool Springs M.B. Church with the Rev. Ryan Moore officiating. Burial will follow at Cedar Hill Cemetery under the direction of W.H. Jefferson Funeral Home.

Mrs. Miller died Monday, Aug. 5. 2002, at Trace Haven Nursing Home. She was 86.

A homemaker, she was a member of Cool Springs M.B. Church.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Fred D. Miller; her mother, Leola Powell; and her stepfather, Jeffrie Carter Sr.

She is survived by a sister, Hertisena Carter of Vicksburg; two stepbrothers; five stepsisters; and nieces, nephews and other relatives.

ARTHUR STRONG JR.

Arthur Strong Jr. died Wednesday, Aug. 7, 2002, at University Medical Center in Jackson. He was 25.

Mr. Strong was a 1995 graduate of Vicksburg High School. He was a ripsaw operator at Batesville Casket Company. He was a member of Zion Travelers M.B. Church.

He was preceded in death by his maternal grandfather, Robert Brown Sr.; and his paternal grandfather, Walter Strong Sr.

He is survived by his fiancee, Shelia Kelly of Vicksburg; his daughter, Kiara Royale Strong of Vicksburg; his father, Arthur Strong Sr. of Vicksburg; his mother, Bettie M. Brown Strong of Vicksburg; his brother, Jermaine T. Strong of Vicksburg; his sister, Joyce M. Strong of Vicksburg; and other relatives.
