[08/15/02]Chase Smith’s second round was better than his first at the Independent Insurance Agent Junior Classic national golf tournament, but it wasn’t good enough to make the cut.

Smith rebounded from a first-round 94 to shoot 88 in the second round on the 5,901-yard Northgate Country Club course in Houston, but was in 118th place.

Only the top 60 golfers in the 72-hole tournament for players age 18-and-under made the cut.

Smith, a 13-year-old eighth-grader at St. Aloysius, was one of the youngest of the 123 players in the tournament. He was in last place after the first round, but shot better than five other golfers on Wednesday to move up.
