[11/12/02]A Vicksburg woman died and a child remained hospitalized this morning after a one-vehicle wreck Monday on Halls Ferry Road, Warren County Coroner John Thomason said.

Georgia Hall, 47, and Jeremy Judge, 5, both of 533 Smith Road, were in the vehicle headed south when Hall lost control of the 2001 Saturn and it struck a utility pole just north of Melrose Avenue about 10:38 a.m., Vicksburg Police Lt. David Beard said.

Both Hall and Judge, believed to be her grandson, were ejected from the vehicle. Both were taken to River Region Medical Center and Hall was later taken to University Medical Center in Jackson, where she died at 4:09 a.m. today, Thomason said.

The 5-year-old was admitted for treatment at River Region and was reported in stable condition this morning, said hospital spokesman Diane Gawronski.

Neither Hall, who was thrown about 50 feet from the vehicle, nor Judge, who was thrown about 15 feet from the vehicle, was wearing a seat belt, Beard said.

Mary Graves, who was heading north on Halls Ferry Road, witnessed and reported the accident and then stayed to comfort Judge until medical help arrived.

“I believe she had a heart attack or something,” Graves said. “She started swerving, hit the pole and it threw her and the child from the car.”

Thomason said no autopsy was to be performed on Hall, who had a medical history including seizures.

Vicksburg Fire Department Lt. Dewayne Winters said Hall was in need of immediate cardiopulmonary rescusitation when medical personnel arrived.

Power was briefly lost in the neighborhood and traffic was stalled on Halls Ferry for about an hour and a half.

Williams Funeral will have charge of arrangements for Hall.
