IDA WILLIAMS BROOKS
DETROIT, Mich. Ida Williams Brooks died Tuesday, Nov. 12, 2002, at her home in Detroit, Mich. She was 76.
Mrs. Brooks was a former resident of Vicksburg and attended St. Mary’s Catholic School.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Willie Brooks; her parents, Frank Williams Sr. and Lula Fuller Williams; and two brothers, Frank Williams Jr. and Elijah “Babe Ruth” Williams.
Survivors include three daughters, Valerie Williams Hunter of Vicksburg and Carolyn Upshaw and Brendalyn Ellis, both of Detroit; a sister, Calena O’Neal of Detroit; a brother, Johnny B. Williams of Detroit; six grandchildren including, Deidra N. Williams of Vicksburg; four great-grandchildren; and other relatives including the Chapman, Stevenson, Fisher, Turner, Williams, Prentiss, Gaskins, and Fuller families of Vicksburg.
Ellis Memorial Funeral Home in Detroit has charge of arrangements.
MARILYN NICHOLS OMOBUDE
JACKSON Services for Marilyn Nichols Omobude will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Morning Star Baptist Church in Jackson with the Rev. John Johnson officiating. Burial will follow at Cedar Hill Cemetery in Vicksburg under the direction of Westhaven Funeral Home in Jackson.
Visitation will be from 10 until the service Monday at the church.
Ms. Omobude died Tuesday, Nov. 12, 2002, at Mississippi Baptist Medical Center in Jackson. She was 47.
A native of Vicksburg, she lived in Jackson and was a nurse at Mississippi Baptist Medical Center. She was a graduate of North Vicksburg High School and Mississippi College and was a member of Morning Star Baptist Church in Jackson.
She was preceded in death by her father, Peter Nichols Sr.
Survivors include two daughters, Keyhanna Nichols and Megan Omobude, both of Jackson; a son, Kori Nichols of Jackson; her mother, Mae Ella Nichols of Vicksburg; three sisters, Thelma Lee of Petersburg, Va., Gloria Hicks of Aurora, Ill., and JoAnn Taylor of Jackson; a brother, Peter Nichols of Vicksburg; two grandchildren, Kayla Nichols and Sidney Nichols, both of Jackson; and other relatives and friends.
JOSIE MAE TERRY
LAKE PROVIDENCE, La. Josie Mae Terry died Friday, Nov. 15, 2002, at St. Francis Medical Center in Monroe, La. She was 78.
Ms. Terry was a resident of Lake Providence, La.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Bob Sledge and Nora Terry.
Survivors include a sister, Ovine Hicks of Lake Providence; three nieces, Inez Smith, Sandra Marsh and Louise Hicks, all of Lake Providence; six nephews, Marvin Hicks, Robert Hicks, Jerry Hicks and Bud Hicks, all of Lake Providence and Henry Hicks and Gene Hicks, both of Tallulah; and other relatives.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Cox Funeral Home Chapel in Lake Providence with the Rev. V.L. Dickson officiating.
Burial will follow at Herringville Cemetery in Monticello, La.
ADA L. GAINES
Ada L. Gaines died Thursday, Nov. 14, 2002 at River Region Medical Center. She was 72.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Preston Gaines, Sr.; a son, J.C. Gaines; her parents, Sim Putman and Bessie Wilson Putman; five sisters Alberta Ballard, Bertha Lewis, Murlee Atkins, Marie Maxwell, Mattie Shuler, Annie Mae McGee and Josephine Brown; one brother, Fred Putman; her grandmother Ada Wilson.
Survivors include a sister Clottie Allison of Vicksburg; five sons, Charles James Scott, Preston Gaines, Jr., J.D. Gaines, T.J. Gaines, all of Vicksburg and Serboya Delotta of Greenville; four daughters, Marsha Powell and Daisy James of Vicksburg, Rosetta Royster of Memphis, and Ella Mae Kline of Germantown, Md., and other relatives and friends.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Sunday at W.H. Jefferson Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Lester Lacey officiating.
Burial will follow at Cedar Hill Cemetery.
Visitation will be at W.H. Jefferson Funeral Home today from 6 to 7 p.m.
