Marie Brady Bergland

RIDGELAND Marie Brady Bergland died Monday, Jan. 20, 2003, at Hospice Ministries in Ridgeland. She was 54.

Mrs. Bergland was born in Vicksburg to Claude and Ruth Brady of Delta, La. She graduated from St. Francis Xavier Academy in 1966. She worked as a certified public accountant in the tax department at DeMiller Denny Word and Co. before joining her husband’s business, Bergland Capital Management Inc.

She is survived by her husband, John E. Bergland Jr. of Ridgeland; two daughters, Faith Bergland and Tiffany Bergland, both of Ridgeland; a son, John E. “Bubba” Bergland III of Tuscaloosa, Ala.; and a sister, Claudia Crawford of Vicksburg.

Memorial services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Reservoir Pointe by Cock of the Walk restaurant in Ridgeland.

John A. Collins Sr.

Services for John A. Collins Sr. will be at 11 a.m. Friday at W.H. Jefferson Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Cedar Hill Cemetery.

Mr. Collins died Sunday, Jan. 19, 2003, at River Region Medical Center. He was 93.

A resident of Vicksburg, Mr. Collins was retired from Kings Stave Mill. He was of the Baptist faith.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Adline Ford Collins; his father, Robert Collins; his mother, Mary Lizia Collins; three sons, John A. Collins Jr., Robert Lee Collins and Archie Lee Collins; and two brothers, Ernest Collins and Richard Collins.

Survivors include three sons, Andrew Lee Collins of Bakersfield, Calif., Larry Collins of Vicksburg and Tesvester Day of Sheboyjan, Wis.; four daughters, Mary L. Hall of Thomasburg, Ill., Annie Lee Collins of Los Angeles, Helen Brown of Jackson and Eddie Ruth Collins of Canton; a sister, Martha Ward of Aberdeen; grandchildren; great-grandchildren; and nieces, nephews and other relatives.

Elder Anthony M. Gordon

PORT GIBSON Elder Anthony M. Gordon died Tuesday, Jan. 21, 2003, at River Region Medical Center. He was 86.

Elder Gordon attended Claiborne County Training School, Southern Christian Institute and the Theological Institute in Paducah, Ky. He was former pastor of Rose Hill Christian Church and Pine Grove Christian Church in Claiborne County and Little Zion Christian Church in Jefferson County. He was serving as pastor at First Christian Church in Hermanville and Mount Zion Christian Church in the Willows community.

He was preceded in death by a wife, Bennie Hamilton-Gordon; two sons, Henry L. Gordon and Napoleon B. Gordon Sr.; his mother, Cornelia Williams; his father; two foster brothers; and a foster sister.

Survivors include his wife, Bernice Moore Gordon of Port Gibson; a daughters, Sarah Gordon-Chambliss of Port Gibson; five sons, Cornelius Gordon of Vicksburg, Robert Gordon Sr. of Clarksdale, Lester Patton of Clinton, Thomas Gordon of Broadview, Ill., and Anthony Gordon Jr. of Orlando, Fla.; a foster brother, Fred Green of St. Louis, Mo.; 25 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at Mercy Seat M.B. Church in Port Gibson with Elder James Devine officiating, assisted by the Rev. Frank McGriggs. Burial will follow at Pine Grove Christian Church Cemetery in Port Gibson.

Visitation will be from 1 until 6 p.m. Friday at Thompson Funeral Home Inc. and from noon Saturday until the service at the church.

Sadie Louise Keen Hearn

Services for Sadie Louise Keen Hearn will be at 2 p.m. today at Fisher Funeral Home with the Rev. Jesse Brent officiating. Burial will follow at Green Acres Cemetery.

Mrs. Hearn died Monday, Jan. 20, 2003, at Heritage House Nursing Home. She was 90.

A native of Phoenix, Miss., Mrs. Hearn had been a resident of Warren County for most of her life. She was the daughter of the late Thomas Bascom Keen and Abbie Susie Gallaway. She worked as a private sitter and was of the Church of Christ faith.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, James Lester Hearn; a son, Thomas E. Hearn; two brothers, James Keen and Melvin Keen; and two sisters, Ester Mae Ryan and Minnie Alice McClure.

Survivors include a grandson, Hank Hearn of Vicksburg; five granddaughters, Charlotte Santucci of Greenville, Pam Carr of Pattison and Debra Pettway, Linda R. Hearn and Mona Cole, all of Vicksburg; one brother, L.M. “Booster” Turnage of Laurel; three sisters, Abbie Dee Adams of Brandon, Porter Fay Vanderver of Yazoo City and Helen Hood of Covington, La.; and 10 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Jerry W. Santucci Jr., Shawn Ray Childers, Paul Carr, Billy Brent, Jeremy Hearn and Dean Hearn.

Honorary pallbearers will be James Keen, J.W. Hearn, Clyde Pettway, Dr. Daniel Edney, Joe Cole, Jerry W. Santucci Sr., Travis Passmore and Karen Pedroche.

Marjorie Kay Montgomery

Marjorie Kay Montgomery died Wednesday, Jan. 22, 2003, at River Region Medical Center. She was 67.

A native and lifelong resident of Vicksburg, Mrs. Montgomery was a member of First Baptist Church.

She was preceded in death by her father, Ralph Cates.

She is survived by a son, Tom Logue of Pearl; a daughter, Tonia Dickerson of Vicksburg; her mother, Ada Mae Anthony of Vicksburg; one brother, Arthur Lagg of Vicksburg; one sister, Carol Guion of Baton Rouge; two stepchildren, Monica Graham of Birmingham, Ala., and Monty Montgomery of Clarksville, Tenn.; and six grandchildren.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Fisher Funeral Home with Dr. Eric Thomas and the Rev. Carter Gibson officiating. Burial will follow at Cedar Hill Cemetery.

Visitation will be from noon Friday until the service at the funeral home.

Pallbearers will be Alan Lagrange, Anthony Lagrange, Matthew Logue, Everett Gibson, Bryan Lagg, J.R. Dickerson, Charles Guion and Jeff Dickerson.

Honorary pallbearers will be Dr. John Ford, Dr. Van Phan Hien, Jonathan Logue and Joseph Logue.
