Warren Central splits with Louisiana teams

[3/22/04]Warren Central split a four-game weekend series with some top Louisiana baseball teams.

The Vikings (12-4) defeated Barbe 8-4 on Thursday and Ouachita 13-8 on Saturday. In between, WC lost to Evangel on Friday, 15-11, and West Monroe on Saturday, 10-3.

In the Ouachita win, Mark Different threw 11 pitches in the sixth inning to earn the win. He was one of five WC pitchers used in the weekend finale.

Vaughn Mims hit a double, home run and had four RBIs to lead the Vikings’ 9-hit attack. John Rice Pettway hit a bases-clearing double and had three RBIs, while Ryan Grey hit a triple and Eric Douglas belted a double.

Grey’s shot in the sixth tied the game at 8 and set up WC for a five-run seventh inning.

Earlier Saturday, West Monroe led 7-0 after three innings and the Vikings never recovered.

Different, Mims, Pettway and Drew Warnock each had two hits to lead WC’s 11-hit attack. Josh Gordon tripled and Zach Balthrop doubled in the win.

On Friday, Otis Stamps crushed a double and a home run and had two RBIs in the loss. Douglas and Pettway each connected for two hits and Balthrop doubled.

The Vikings will be back in action Tuesday night at Bazinsky Field against archrival Vicksburg High.
