Vicksburg Angels advance to regional after winning state

[7/13/04]The Vicksburg Angels, a 10-year-olds’ all-star team, earned a berth in the Southwest Regional with a convincing run through the Cal Ripken State Tournament.

The Angels defeated Meridian 14-5 on Monday to complete an undefeated run that saw the team beat Corinth, Florence and Meridian twice.

Clyde Kendrick went 3-for-4 with three singles, while Will Stegall, Kwayne Gaston, Josh Eargle and Jake Ward each had two hits.

Cody Waddell pitched four innings and struck out four for the win. Stegall pitched the final two innings and struck out five.

The team will leave for Amarillo, Texas, on July 22, and will play in the five-day Regional tournament. A victory there would send the Angels to the Cal Ripken World Series in Vienna, Ind.
