Henry Brown Jr.

FITLER – Henry Brown Jr. died Thursday, June 16, 2005, at his home in Fitler. He was 51.

Survivors include his mother, Sarah Brown of Fitler; one son, Shaun Milsap of Fitler; two daughters, Evelyn Luckett and Arianna Brown, both of Fitler; four brothers, Ivan Bonnie Brown of Los Angeles, Robbin Brown of Fitler, Lee Brown of Greenville and Terry Brown of Vicksburg; five sisters, Deborah Willis and Estella Robinson, both of Fitler, Delena Brown and Christina Brown, both of Los Angeles, and Venessa Humphey of Cary; and other relatives and friends including Oran Milsap of Fitler.

Services will be at noon Saturday at Woodlawn Baptist Church in Fitler with the Rev. Willie Erves officiating. Visitation will be from 6 until 7 this evening at Mitchell L. Walker Funeral Home in Rolling Fork.

Burial will follow at St. Matthews Cemetery.

Douglas Mayberry

OAK GROVE – Douglas “Doug” Mayberry died Tuesday, June 21, 2005, at M.D. Anderson Hospital in Houston, Texas.

He was 61.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert Lee Mayberry and Louise Emma Mayberry; and two brothers, Eugene Mayberry and C.W. Mayberry.

Survivors include his wife, Juanice Mayberry of Oak Grove; one son, Brad Mayberry of Tallulah; two daughters, Leslie Mayberry Bates of Baton Rouge and Brittany Mayberry of Oak Grove; and seven sisters, Joyce Herman of Phenix City, Ala., Dorothy Rhodes of Shreveport, Emma White of Dallas, Annie Bell Kyle of Keithville, Francis Hampton of Ruston, Hattie Powers of Tallulah and Pauline Jinks of Dunn.

Services will be at 2 today at Goodwill Baptist Church in Oak Grove with the Revs. Wesley Bennett and George Bates officiating. Burial will follow at Redwing Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be James B. Wyatt, Aaron Johnson, Sylvester Hernandez, John W. Parker, William Merrill and Douglas Curtis Jr.

Honorary pallbearer will be Artie Skeldon.

Maggie Carson

Services for Maggie “Dump” Carson will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at Clover Valley M.B. Church in Vicksburg with the Rev. Johnny Williams officiating. Burial will follow at Belmont Cemetery. Visitation will be from 11 a.m. until 6 p.m. Saturday at Robbins Funeral Home and from 1 p.m. Sunday until the hour of service at the church.

Mrs. Carson died Tuesday, June 21, 2005, at River Region Medical Center. She was 66.

She was retired from the Vicksburg Warren School District. She was a choir member and member of Clover Valley M.B. Church in Vicksburg. She was a member of Eastern Star and the Church Vineyard Society.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Walter Carson Sr.; her parents, Adam Spiller and Alean Erves Ross; her grandparents, Nathan Jones and Annie Erves Jones; and one great-grandchild, Koriece Jackson.

Survivors include three daughters, Doris Hopkins of Robinsonville, Wilma Green of Jackson and Dr. Rubye Watkins of Memphis; one son, Walter Carson Jr. of Memphis; four sisters, Judge Ceola James of Vicksburg, Dorothy Ross of Jackson, Coletta Rice of Raymond and Willie Lee Ross of Houston, Texas; five brothers, Arthur James Ross, the Rev. Willis Ross and James Spiller, all of Jackson, and Albert Ross and the Rev. George Ross, both of Vicksburg; 10 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and nieces, nephews and other relatives, including the Erves, Watts, Williams and Drayton families of Vicksburg and Carson, Flaggs and Burks families of Utica.

Ernest Jack Thames

TALLULAH – Ernest Jack Thames died Thursday, June 23, 2005, at Richland Parish Hospital in Delhi. He was 75.

Mr. Thames was born in Morehead, Miss., and lived in Transylvania for 35 years.

He was a retired farmer and veteran of the Korean War. He was a member of Church of Christ of Tallulah and East Carroll American Legion.

Survivors include his wife, Linda Farmer Thames of Transylvania; one son, Jacky Loyd Thames of Sondheimer; two sisters, Ann Jones of Farmerville and Willie Mae Fox of Monroe; and one grandchild.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Church of Christ in Tallulah with the Rev. Richard Taylor officiating. Burial will follow at Memorial Park Cemetery in Lake Providence under the direction of Crothers-Glenwood Funeral Home. Visitation will be from 9 a.m. Saturday until the hour of service at the church.

Pallbearers will be Wayne Wiltcher, James Kiley Thames, Dan Copes, Stuart Frith, Preston Walker and Adam Thames.

Honorary pallbearers will be James Oscar Thornton III, Rod Stone, Lamar Williams, Ed Rushing and Marlin Wedel.

Bobby Hugh Vanderford

RALEIGH – Bobby Hugh Vanderford died Wednesday, June 22, 2005, at South Central Regional Hospital in Laurel. He was 62.

Mr. Vanderford was a disabled farmer.

Survivors include his wife, Imogene Vanderford of Raleigh; two sons, Rickey Vanderford of Redwood and Gerald Vanderford of Valley Park; one daughter, Patsy Null of Vicksburg; three brothers, Clete Vanderford of Puckett, L.Q. Vanderford of Pearl and “Top” Vanderford of Raleigh; three sisters, Faye Hendrix of Jacinto, Linda Byrd of Pearl and Brenda Sonnenberg of Polkville; and nine grandchildren.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Eastside Baptist Church in Raleigh. Burial will follow at Galilee Cemetery in Smith County under the direction of Tutor Funeral Home in Magee.
