Mary Rogers Cadney

PORT GIBSON — Mary Rogers Cadney died Monday, Dec. 27, 2010, at her home in Port Gibson. She was 83.

Mrs. Cadney was a member and mother at Mount Olive M.B. Church in the Westside community, where she formerly had served on the usher board. She was a member of the Missionary Auxiliary and Port Heron Chapter No. 191 of the Eastern Star.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Norman Cadney; her parents, Henry and Grace Marshall Cadney; a son, Lorenzo Cadney; one sister, Claria R. Johnson; and three brothers, Charles Rogers, Levi Rogers and Henry Rogers Jr.

She is survived by three daughters, Carolyn M. Cadney of Biloxi, Marion Dismuke of Birmingham, Ala., and Grace Prowell of Port Gibson; three grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and other relatives and friends, including Je’Kel Smith of Lorman and Alma J. Cadney of Greenwood.

Services will be at noon Saturday at Mount Olive M.B. Church with the Rev. Elijah Brown officiating. Burial will follow at Carbondale Cemetery. Visitation will be from 1 until 5:30 p.m. Friday at Thompson Funeral Home in Port Gibson and Saturday at the church from 11 a.m. until the service.
