The Vicksburg National Military Park will conduct controlled burns inside the park, south of Clay Street, between Monday and Feb. 25. The locations set for burns are Fort Garrott and Railroad Redoubt on the park’s South Loop. They will be conducted in a one- to two-day period.

The burns help in the overall maintenance of park landscape, reducing the accumulation of hazardous fuels, controlling the spread of invasive plant species and providing a more historically accurate view of the park.
