LAKE PROVIDENCE — Reather Garrett “Reecie” Thomas died Friday, April 8, 2011, at her home. She was 78.
Mrs. Thomas was the daughter of the late Andrew and Vinie Garrett. She was reared in Homer, La., where she attended Oak Grove Baptist Church. After moving to Lake Providence, she became a member of North Star Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Jasper “Jap” Thomas; a daughter, Willie M. Cooper; a stepdaughter, Georgia F. Thomas; four brothers, William Garrett, Leon Garrett, Curtis Garrett and Johnny Garrett; and three sisters, Ruby G. Burton, Eva G. Scott and Emma G. Henry.
Survivors include two daughters, Eva Thomas and Rene Williams, both of Lake Providence; four sons, Otha Manning Jr. and Charles Thomas, both of Lake Providence, and Artis Williams and Billy Williams, both of Vicksburg; a stepson, Roosevelt Thomas of Haynesville, La.; one sister, Onie Hill of San Diego, Calif.; two brothers, Andrew Garrett of Homer and Louis Garrett of Carson, Calif.; 19 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends, including Laura Mays.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at North Star Baptist Church with Bishop C.H. Murray officiating. Burial will follow at Good Samaritan Cemetery under the direction of Harris Funeral Home of Lake Providence.
Pallbearers will be Otha Manning Jr., Artis Williams, Billy Williams, Charles Thomas, Michael Garrett and Wydette Williams.
Honorary pallbearers will be Donald Hampton, Terry Campbell, Phillip Goins, Jessie Reynolds, Isaac Fields Jr. and Charlie Hampton Sr.
