Gubernatorial hopeful set for Tea Party event

Lt. Gov. Phil Bryant will speak at a May 12 Vicksburg Tea Party event.

The meeting will start at 6:30 p.m. at Shoney’s on Pemberton Square Boulevard.

Bryant, a Republican elected to his current post in 2007, is running for governor. Primary elections are Aug. 2, and the general election is Nov. 8.

Bryant was state auditor from 1996 to 2007. Before that, he served five years in the state House of Representatives, where he was vice chairman of the Insurance Committee.

A Moorhead native and former deputy sheriff, Bryant has a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice from the University of Southern Mississippi and a master’s in political science from Mississippi College, where he is an adjunct government professor.
