The Mississippi Department of Environmental Quality will be providing a curbside pickup of household hazardous materials next week for Warren County residents affected by Mississippi River flooding at Lake Chotard, Thompson Lake and Glass Road. The U.S. 61 South and business areas and the Big Black River area will also be serviced in the pickup.
The waste collection will take place Wednesday, Thursday and Friday, and residents who place their trash on the public road out of the way of traffic will have it collected.
Household chemicals such as paints, antifreeze, cleaning supplies, gas and oils all will be eligible for pickup on the days designated. Computers, lighting ballasts, televisions, cell phones and thermostats are also acceptable.
“Any type of chemical product that you use to maintain your home, yard, equipment/vehicles should be included in this grouping,” the MDEQ said in a press release.
MDEQ also said should there be a significant amount of waste that cannot be collected during the designated days, a collection drop-off site may be established.
