Neither Park Place nor Porters Chapel had won a girls basketball game this season when the teams met Monday night at PCA.
Something had to give.
The streak ended for Park Place. The Lady Crusaders (1-11, 1-2 District 4-A) found some offense from 5-foot-11 center Savannah Harris and PCA had no answer in a 38-7 loss. Harris had 10 points and seven rebounds as Park Place grabbed its first win.
Despite the loss, PCA coach E.J. Creel said her team made progress.
“We did all right,” Creel said. “This was our best game in terms of hustle and moving around. We took a lot of shots, which is something I’m proud of. We just didn’t make anything.”
The Lady Eagles (0-5, 0-3) made just 3 of 34 shots in the game and committed 20 turnovers. On the plus side, they forced Park Place into 22 turnovers, including 12 steals. Taylor Hays led PCA with five steals.
Park Place coach Rod Morris said his team’s early schedule has helped it improve.
“We played a lot of (Class) AA schools to start the year and took some losses,” Morris said. “We’ve worked hard on our defense and it was all right tonight.”
Park Place held PCA to just two points in the first half to grab a 19-2 lead. PCA cut it to 22-6 at the end of the third quarter after Morgan Ross made the last of the Lady Eagles’ three shots.
Park Place came back to outscore PCA 16-1 in the final quarter.
