Simpson Academy took advantage of a technical foul to go on a game-breaking 8-0 run in the third quarter, and rolled to a 60-33 victory over Porters Chapel on Friday night.

PCA (7-1) trailed by eight points at halftime, then starting guard P.J. Lassiter picked up his third foul early in the third quarter. While Lassiter headed to the bench, two PCA subs went in and the Eagles ended up with six players on the court.

Simpson cashed in on the resulting technical foul shots and ensuing possessions to turn the close game into a rout. It outscored PCA 16-3 in the third quarter.

“We blinked and it was 23 points,” PCA coach E.J. Creel said.

Ted Brisco led PCA with 16 points. Lassiter was the next-highest scorer with six. The Eagles will return to action next Friday at Newton Academy.

In the girls’ game, Simpson Academy shut out Porters Chapel 63-0. The Lady Cougars used a press to take a 34-0 lead after one quarter, and led 52-0 at halftime. “They were classy. Their coach said they were going to work on the press for a quarter, and that’s what they did,” Creel said.
