When Warren Central cornerback Chris Stamps was offered a scholarship Saturday at Mississippi State’s junior day event, he wasted little time in continuing the Viking pipeline to Starkville.
The recruiting website 247 Sports reported Tuesday that Stamps, a 6-foot-1 cornerback, committed to Mississippi State as part of its 2015 recruiting class.
Stamps will follow in the footsteps of former WC punter/kicker Devon Bell, teammate defensive end Damon Stamps and coaches Josh Morgan and Rob Morgan.
Stamps was also offered by Louisiana Tech and was getting interest from Alabama, Missouri, Auburn and Ole Miss.
The 6-foot-1, 170-pound shutdown cornerback started every game for Warren Central’s defense last season. He had 35 tackles, five interceptions and broke up 10 passes for a defense that was one of the state’s best last season, surrendering slightly more than 12 points per game.
The junior was also WC’s top wide receiver last season, with 26 catches for 398 yards and three touchdowns.
Mississippi State has eight committments for the 2015 class. Committments are non-binding.
