St. Al basketball game rained out

The St. Aloysius Flashes had to endure a rare basketball rainout on Thursday night.
Heavy thunderstorms in south Mississippi knocked out power to Bogue Chitto’s gym, forcing the postponement of several games in the Division 7-1A Tournament.
St. Al’s boys’ game with the host Bobcats was pushed back to tonight at 7 p.m. The consolation and championship games, originally scheduled for today, will now be played on Saturday. No time has been set for the Saturday games.
St. Al coach Delvin Thompson said his team was making its way to Bogue Chitto and had stopped to eat in Brookhaven when it got the news. The storms rolled through just before 7 p.m., bringing with them heavy rain, wind and tornado warnings. Thompson said the decision was made to postpone the games around 7:30, about an hour after the power failure.
“They said a tree fell on some power lines and there was too much water to get to it,” Thompson said.
The postponement means St. Al will play three playoff games in five days. It received a first-round bye in the tournament, and is guaranteed a spot in both the Saturday games and next week’s Class 1A South State satellite round regardless of the outcome of tonight’s game.
The schedule will be grueling, but Thompson said he wasn’t concerned about it.
“We’re prepared for it. We should be fine,” he said.
