Man given $450K bond in pushing death

A Vicksburg man accused of killing a 70-year-old relative Sunday was issued a $450,000 bond Monday  in Municipal Court.

Caleb Erves, no age available, of Walnut Street, was in a dispute with Emanuel Erves shortly after midnight Sunday and pushed him down the stairs of a boarding house, Vicksburg police Lt. Sandra Williams said.

Caleb Erves was arrested at his residence on Walnut Street about 4:30 p.m. Sunday.

Vicksburg Community Court Judge Toni Terrett issued the bond.

Warren County Coroner Doug Huskey said trauma from the fall killed the elder Erves.

“We think he had a broken neck,” he said.

Huskey said a full autopsy was expected to be complete Monday.

Erves was being held at the Issaquena County Correctional Facility this morning.
