Parts of Boy Scout, Halls Ferry and Stenson roads highlight the list of roads most sorely in need of new lane striping in Warren County, while Logue Circle is tops among 15 roads that county supervisors think they can afford to apply new driving surfaces in 2014.

All three rated the worst in terms of condition-versus-daily traffic counts, according to this year’s edition of county engineers’ road ratings, which drives the county’s routine road maintenance priorities from year to year.

In all, 105 of a possible 373 road segments were rated for 2014. Fifteen were singled out strictly due to money, officials said. They include parts of Logue Circle, Windsor Point, Queen’s Point, Camelot Drive, Ridgelawn Drive, Clear Creek Road, Lancelot Lane, Tower Drive, Hickory Street, Pecan Street, Windham Drive, Eastview Drive, Pine Ridge Drive, Howe Lane and Quinola Lane, a list that would run $824,733.

All rated a 64 or worse on a 100-point scale. Ninety roads graded a 75 or worse; doing them all in 2014 would cost at least $21 million, based on condition, McKee said.

“These (fifteen) are the ones we can do with the money we have after striping, basically,” County Engineer John McKee told supervisors Monday.

Supervisors have budgeted $1,125,000 for paving in fiscal 2014, or about 4.5 miles of roadway.

Parts of Bovina Cutoff, Oak Ridge, Tiffintown and Tucker roads, as well as the part of U.S. 80 that the county maintains from Bovina to the Big Black River, make up $150,987.20 of the $397,872 in striping work slated for 2014. All are “state aid” roads, which are financed by the Office of State Aid Road Construction.

Supervisors listened as McKee said a $313,350 project to replace a bridge at Old Highway 27 at the Vicksburg city limits can be scrapped for now to free up enough money to finance striping on 18 more roads that the county doesn’t get state help to stripe or pave. That list consists of Boy Scout, Freetown, Gibson, Glass, Halls Ferry (in the county), LeTourneau, Nine Mile Cutoff, Paxton and Redwood roads, Sherman Avenue, Stenson Loop, Stenson, Tiffintown and Tucker roads.

Revenue taxes from Vicksburg’s four casinos, a funding source tapped most often by the county to finance routine road work, showed $768,501 through January, or about $23,000 ahead of projections made when supervisors adopted the current budget last September.
