Cherry Street is closed to through traffic today between Belmont Street to South Street so city utility workers can install a gas service line to the old Carr School site.

Public Works Director Garnet Van Norman said the traffic is being detoured around the work at the Belmont and South Street intersections on Cherry. Motorists are encouraged to use Drummond Street to head south from downtown. Houston, Texas-based Brownstone is converting Carr Central into a low-income housing project.
