City board OKs airport, shelter financing

Repairs to the fuel apron at Vicksburg Municipal Airport and to the area where airplanes are kept there took a small step toward reality Monday.

The Board of Mayor and Aldermen approved a resolution seeking $296,000 in Federal Aviation Administration funds for the airport. The board at its March 25 meeting approved the grant application but did not approve the resolution. The application must be filed with the FAA by the end of the week, and the board does not meet again until April 7.

A second housekeeping item in the special session endorsed a grant application by the Warren County Children’s Shelter.

City Attorney Nancy Thomas said the letter supporting the children’s shelter’s grant was approved earlier by the board but was not put in the board minutes. She said the letter and the shelter’s application had to be submitted by Friday. The vote on the letter was 2-1. North Ward Alderman Michael Mayfield, who is a member of the shelter’s board of directors, abstained.
