Emma McGriggs Carson died Friday, March 28, 2014, at Clinton Healthcare in Clinton. She was 76.

A resident of Utica, Mrs. Carson served on the mother board of the church and was a member of the choir.

She was preceded in death by her sister, Huldah Chase; three brothers, Louis McGriggs Sr., Sam McGriggs Jr., and Daniel McGriggs; and a granddaughter, Resheka McGriggs.

Survivors include, her husband, J.C. Carson of Utica; three daughters, Rosie Harvey of Bolton, and Shirley Hartsfield and Tammie McGriggs, both of Utica; one stepson, James Carson of Vicksburg; two stepdaughters, Veronica Ann Butler of Vicksburg and Clara Anita Jenkins of Arkansas; seven grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, and nieces, nephews, cousins, and other relatives.

Services will be 12:30 p.m. Saturday, April 5, 2014, at Greater Zion Travelers Baptist Church with the Rev. Dr. Casey Fisher officiating. Burial will follow at the church cemetery under the direction of Dillon-Chisley Funeral Home. Visitation will be Friday from 1 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home, and Saturday at the church from 11:30 until the hour of service.
