Nathaniel Perkins

Nathaniel “John” Perkins died Thursday, March 27, 2014, at River Region Medical Center. He was 54.

Mr. Perkins was born on Jan. 10, 1960, in Vicksburg to the late John D. “Money Q” Dixon Jr., and the late Linda Ann Perkins-Betts of Vicksburg

He was a 1979 graduate of Vicksburg High School, and graduated Hinds Community College in 1981. He served in the U.S. Army Reserve and active duty with the U.S. Army.  He was an entrepreneur and owner of John’s Body Shop. He was baptized at Calvary Baptist Church.

Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Viola Warren and Jack Perkins; paternal grandparents, John Dixon Sr. Claudia Young; and a   brother, Calvin Jenkins.

Survivors include his wife of 14 ½ years, Tonya Suzette Hall-Perkins of Vicksburg; two sons, Jonathan Woodson and Jonathan Jackson, both of Vicksburg; three daughters, Idella Darcia Shorter of Houston, Texas, Adrienne Yvette Bingham and Tamisha Stowers, both of  Vicksburg; seven grandchildren; six brothers, James Odell Dixon of Chicago, Kevin Jenkins, Eric Washington and Tyrone Jenkins, all of Vicksburg, Reno Shorter of Clinton, and Sedrick Perkins of Vallejo, Calif.; nine sisters, Harriet Perkins-Blair of Bradford, Ohio, Viola Tidwell, Anna Perkins, Linda M. Brown, Alice M. Daniel, Varria Ann Dixon and Constance Braxton, all of Vicksburg, Deeneen  Benson of Huntsville, Ala., and Mavis Crawford of Atlanta.

Services will be 11 a.m. Saturday, April 5, 2014, at the Vicksburg Auditorium with Pastor Brian Crawford officiating. Burial will follow at Cedar Hill Cemetery.

Visitation will be Friday from 1 to 7p.m. at Lakeview Memorial Funeral Home.
