National Day of Prayer set for Thursday

A community prayer breakfast will headline local events Thursday for the National Day of Prayer.

Christopher Epps, commissioner of the Mississippi Department of Corrections will be the headline speaker at the event at 7 a.m. at the Bypass Church of Christ Annex, 785 U.S. 61 North.

Tickets are $5 and may be purchased at the door, but reservations are required and may be made by calling 601-638-5142 or emailing wjnettle@yahoo.com.

Throughout the city, prayer assemblies will be held at Heritage House and Vicksburg Convalescent Home in the morning and at Pemberton Plaza, City Hall, the Old Court House Museum, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Harbor Project and Word of Faith Christian Center at 12:15 p.m.

Created by a joint resolution of the U.S. Congress and signed into law by President Harry Truman in 1952, the National Day of Prayer is an annual observance held on the first Thursday of May.
