Vicksburg’s Smith shines at regional track meet

Vicksburg High senior Terrell Smith continued his roll toward the state track meet by winning the 100- and 200-meter dashes and the long jump at the Region 2-5A meet on Saturday.

Smith — the defending Class 5A champion in the 100 and 200 meters — ran the 100 in 10.69 seconds, the 200 in 21.31 seconds, and long jumped 22 feet, 3 1/4 inches.

VHS senior Shawnderick Wilson won the discus with a throw of 137 feet, 2 inches.

Smith and Wilson were among seven members of the Vicksburg High boys team to qualify in individual events for this week’s North State meet at Oxford High School.

Other qualifiers included James Sanders (3,200 meters); Jaylin Smith (400 meters); Tavares Johnson (300 meter hurdles); Leon Miles (300 hurdles); Ben Blue (triple jump, high jump); and the 4×100, 4×200, and 4×400 meter relay teams.
