Vicksburg was cruising along in its playoff opener Wednesday night, up two runs and making all the plays it needed to stay ahead of Germantown.
Then the fourth inning happened.
Germantown exploded for eight hits, and took advantage of an error, a hit batter and two walks to score a dozen runs. It went on to win 12-2 in Game 1 of a Class 5A first-round playoff series.
Game 2 is tonight at 5:30 at Bazinsky Park. If Vicksburg wins, Game 3 will follow immediately afterward.
Faith Thomas and Chandler Ellis had two hits apiece for Vicksburg, and Sydney Bufkin singled and scored a run.
