Funeral services for Lena Mae Burks Hartsfield will be 11 a.m. Wednesday, May 7, 2014 at Barridge Missionary Baptist Church with the Rev. Johnny Anderson officiating. Burial will follow at Henry Cemetery under the direction of Dillon-Chisley Funeral Home. Visitation will be 1 to 7 p.m. today at the funeral home and on Wednesday at the church from 10 a.m. until the hour of service.

Mrs. Hartsfield died Monday, April 28, 2014 at Chadwick Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Jackson. She was 91.

Born in Hinds County, she attended Lanier High School in Jackson. She was retired head cook at Jackson-Hinds Comprehensive Health Center in Utica and had worked as a cook in New Orleans and at the Sidney Building Convalescent Home in Vicksburg. She was also a caregiver in many private homes.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Charlie Henry Hartsfield; her parents, James B. Burks and Mattie Johnson Burks Hicks; and her stepfather, Hernando Desoto Hicks.

Survivors include three sons, Calvin Brown of Cincinnati, Ronnie Hartsfield of Jackson, and Jerry Davis of Utica; one daughter, Charlene Smith of Edwards; two sisters, Ruby Upson of Edwards and Lorea Hubbard of San Francisco; eight grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, and a number of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, and other relatives and friends.
