Bail was set at half a million dollars for a Vicksburg woman accused of home invasion and attempted murder.
Kimberly Nicole Chatman, 23, of National Street, was given a $500,000 bond Tuesday during her initial court appearance in justice court.
Chatman is accused of breaking into the home of a 70-year old woman in the 3600 block of Warriors Trail on Sunday, beating her and leaving her lying in a pool of blood.
The crime was discovered when Warren County Sheriff’s deputies responded to a call for a stranded motorist with an infant on U.S. 80 and discovered a woman covered in blood. Chatman told deputies that she had been in a fight. Visible to deputies inside the maroon Cadillac was a purse and identification of another person.
Sheriff Martin Pace and three deputies went to the home listed on the identification for a welfare check. They discovered the front door unsecured and could see blood on the floor. In a back room of the house, was a woman lying in a pool of blood. She was transported directly to University of Mississippi Medical Center, Pace said.
The woman was listed in good condition this morning, hospital spokesman Bruce Coleman said.
Pace said they believe the home invasion and assault occurred during the early morning hours of Sunday. The suspect and the victim are acquainted but not related, he said.
Chatman was arrested around 1:30 p.m. Sunday and charged with home invasion burglary, robbery and attempted murder. The 6-month old infant that was with her and her other children have been turned over to the care of the Department of Human Services.
