A Vicksburg man injured Saturday in a head-on collision on Washington Street that killed a 26-year-old woman remained hospitalized at University of Mississippi Medical Center today.
Dakota West, 22, was in good condition at UMC, a hospital spokesman said this morning.
West was injured when the car he was driving collided with a Ford Aerostar van Saturday night at the intersection of Washington and Bowman streets, Vicksburg police said.
Krystal Foster, 26, a passenger in the van, was killed in the collision. She was pronounced dead at the River Region Medical Center emergency room. Warren County Coroner Doug Huskey said Foster had a head injury, adding an autopsy was ordered but he had not received the results.
Foster’s death was the first traffic fatality in the city and the second countywide. Willie McCoy III, 25, was killed in a two-car collision April 5 on U.S. 80 about 500 feet west of Mount Alban Road.
According to police reports, West was southbound in a Lincoln LS when his car and the van collided at the intersection with the northbound van driven by Maurice Hall, 27.
Hall, police said, did not appear to be injured.
Police said it was not clear which vehicle crossed into the other lane, and the collision remained under investigation.
