PORT GIBSON — Berthina King died Saturday, May 31, at River Regional Medical Center. She was 83.

Mrs. King was a member of Central Church of Christ in Port Gibson.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Dorsey and Matilda Johnson; her husband, Jessie King; four sisters, Alica Patten, Lula Mae King, Evelyn Dyer and Mary Watson; three brothers, Dorsey Johnson Jr., James Johnson and A.J. Johnson ; and a stepson, Rufus ‘Bill’ King.

Survivors include four stepdaughters, Faye King of Port Gibson, Ola Matthews of Ohio, Ruth McCory of Texas, and Christina Kelly of Pattison; a sister, Juanita Patten of Akron, Ohio; six step-grandchildren; 10 nephews; 18 nieces; and great-nieces and nephews and other relatives and friends, including a special friend, Gloria ‘Pop’ Edwards of Hermanville.

Services will be 11 a.m. Saturday, June 7, 2014, at Central Church of Christ in Port Gibson with the Rev. Eugene Carney officiating.  Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery under the direction of Thompson Funeral Home Inc. of Port Gibson.

Visitation will be Friday from 1 to 6 p.m. at the funeral home, and Saturday at the church from 10 a.m. until the service.
