Reader claims historic homes continue to sparkle in Vicksburg

I have not given up and am not tired of showing my home or telling the history of it and the families that have lived here. I treasure the stories and adore recanting the tales to my guests and visitors from all across the US and all over the world.  Our guests from Europe and Australia are fascinated by our history.  We are a tour home and are open for business 24/7.  Some days we do get tired, but never tire of telling the story of Vicksburg and our home.

I AM tired of paying huge property taxes as we attempt to maintain and upgrade our historic property.  Now car dealerships are getting tax abatement’s for their “modernization/renovations”. Where are mine?

The Mayor and Alderman have told us that they will relocate the railroad crossing at Speed Street so we can have a “quiet zone” in our historic Garden District. I AM ALSO tired of requesting that the RR crossing at Speed Street be closed and because of petitions (signed by people that don’t even live in our neighborhood) submitted to prevent the closure, they have not acted on it.   My father and mother, Cliff and Bettye Whitney, bought The Corners Mansion Inn in 1985 and made it into a bed and breakfast.  He worked until his death in 2005 to get this crossing closed.  Will I live long enough to see that intersection closed?
