After clinging to life for a couple of days, the Mississippi Braves were officially eliminated from the Southern League’s first-half pennant race on Friday night.
Dustin Geiger went 2-for-4 with a home run and three RBIs, and Jae-Hoon Ha was 2-for-5 with a double and two runs scored to lead the Tennessee Smokies to an 8-2 win over the M-Braves.
Mississippi (38-29) fell three games back of Mobile (41-26) with the loss, with two to play in the first half of the season. After Sunday’s games, the standings will reset and the second half begins Thursday, after the Southern League’s all-star break.
