Raiford Edward “R. E.” Harthcock

Raiford Edward “R. E.” Harthcock died on June 23, 2014.
He was the son of the late Joseph Raiford and Christine Foster Harthcock of Coxburg, who preceded him in death along with his brother, Eural.
He is survived by his wife and daughter and nieces and nephews. R.E. was loved by all who knew him.
Mr. Harthcock joined the United States Marine Corps in 1951 and was a veteran of the Korean War. He began working for the U. S. Army Corps of Engineers in 1968, and the Harthcock family lived throughout Mississippi and Louisiana as well as Saudi Arabia during his work for the Corps of Engineers.
R. E. retired from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers in 1984. He spent his retirement years fishing, gardening and genealogy.
He was a man of faith who loved the Lord and his family. He will be remembered for his sweet and gentle spirit and his passion for genealogy. Many will remember him for his delicious home grown tomatoes!
A private graveside service was held at Cedar Hill Cemetery.
The family has requested that instead of flowers memorials to be made in his memory to a charity of choice.
Pall Bearers were Hal Markham, Bill Markham, Rob Gilreath, Todd Richter, Barry White and Tony Markham. Honorary Pallbearers were Joshua Hays, Buddy Hays, Jon Craft and Jamie Hardy.
