Daisy Mae Smith

Daisy Mae Smith died Sunday, June 22, 2014, at River Region Medical Center. She was 74.

She was born in Vicksburg on May 22, 1940, to the late Mr. and Mrs. George and Fannie Washington. She was a member of St. John’s Missionary Baptist Church in the Yokena community, and later joined Cedar Grove Missionary Baptist Church, where she was a faithful member. She was a bus driver for Vicksburg Warren School District, where she retired after 36 years of service.

Besides her parents, Mrs. Smith was preceded in death by her husband, Rufus “Duff” Smith; four sisters, Willie B. Lyons, Georgia Freeman, Emma Gaskin and Catherine Adams; and one brother, Eddie Washington.

Survivors include her one son, Carl Washington of Vicksburg; two sisters, Ethel White and Mary Helen Carson, both of Vicksburg; one brother, Wilbour Washington of Vicksburg; two grandchildren; and nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends, including the Washington, Freeman, Buck, Lyons, Wilson, Martin, Pettis, McGloster, Dorsey, Lacey, Smith and Reynolds families.

Services will be 10 a.m. Saturday, June 28, 2014, at Cedar Grove Missionary Baptist Church with the Rev. Paul Fleming officiating. Burial will follow at Cedar Hill Cemetery.

Visitation will be Friday, from 2 to 7 p.m. at Lakeview Memorial Funeral Home with the family present from 6 to 7 p.m.
