Tena Templeton Matthews

Tena Templeton Matthews passed away peacefully Thursday, June 26, 2014, surrounded by family and friends at St. Dominic’s Hospital.

She was born April 6, 1962, in Vicksburg, and was a lifelong resident. She graduated from Warren Central High School in 1980, and cosmetology school shortly after. She later went on to obtain her insurance license.

She enjoyed traveling and the outdoors, and was an avid fisherman. She also loved spending time with her family, and was a devout member of the Baptist faith.

She was preceded in death by her father, Thomas Templeton, and her maternal and paternal grandparents.

She is survived by her husband of 30 years, Bubba Matthews; son, Will Matthews (Lesa Smith) of Destin, Fla.; stepdaughter, Lindsay Matthews (Billy Lynn) of Vicksburg; three grandchildren, Colby Smith, Chloe Smith and Corbyn Brown, all of Vicksburg; mother and stepfather, Shirley and Glen Smith of St. Joseph, La.; two sisters, Tamie Templeton McCaffrey (Alton) of Denham Springs, La. and Taye Templeton Taylor (Steve Harris) of Destin, Fla.; two stepbrothers, Larry Smith (Vicki) of Orlando, Fla., and David Smith (Dana) of Vicksburg; one stepsister, Tammy Smith Rutherford of Vicksburg; nieces and nephews; and her special friend and caregiver, Ethel Jackson.

Services will be at Glenwood Funeral Home Monday June 30, 2014, at 11 a.m. with the Rev. James Busby officiating. Interment will follow at Cedar Hill Cemetery.

The visitation will be Sunday from 2 to 4 p.m. and Monday from 10 a.m. until the hour of the service.

Pallbearers will be David White, Chuck Wyatt, Keith Munn, Scott Matherne, Elvin Westcott, and Bobby Templeton.  Honorary pallbearers are Trey Little, Ricky Palermo, Brad Templeton, and Miles Henley.

The family requests memorials, in lieu of flowers, be made to your favorite charity.
