Louis Samuel Butler

Louis Samuel “L.S.” Butler died July 2, 2014, at St. Dominic Hospital in Jackson. He was 76.

Mr. Butler was born Jan. 9, 1938, to the late Louis Samuel “Snookie” Barnes and Carrie Butler Paulding in Hinds County.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Leonard and Ethel Butler; paternal grandparents, Emmitt and Beulah Barnes; and one sister, Thelma Woods.

He was a member of Rohelia Missionary Baptist Church, where he served as an usher until his health failed.

Survivors include his wife, Willie Rose Butler of Utica; two daughters, Sandra Buck of Jackson, and Debra Almore of Edwards; five grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; stepmother, Classie Barnes of Jackson; seven brothers, Johnny Paulding Jr. of Antioch, Calif., Oscar Paulding Sr. of Aurora, Ill., David Paulding of Oakland, Calif., Melvin Paulding of Puyallup, Wash., Charles Barnes of Carson, Calif., Carl Louis Barnes of Chicago, and Ralph Barnes of Jackson; seven sisters, Bobby Matthews of Oakland, Calif., Marietta Green of Southhaven, Betty Picou of Oakland, Calif., Linda Walton of Brentwood, Calif., Patricia Bryant of Ridgeland, and Juanetta Ellis and Mary Helen Barnes, both of Jackson; nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.

Services are noon Sunday, July 6, 2014, at Rohelia Missionary Baptist Church in Utica with Pastor Earl Thompson Jr., officiating. Burial will follow at the church cemetery under the direction of Lakeview Memorial Funeral Home.

Visitation will be 1 to 7 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home with the family present at 6 p.m.
