Weather delays start of local tournament

Early storms halted the Warren County Jr. Golf Championships Tuesday, but the setback appears to be only temporary as things finally kicked off this morning. The tournament, which is being held at Clear Creek Golf Course, continues today at a 10 a.m. with opening round action.
A torrent of rain Monday night forced tourney officials to postpone the event, but Clear Creek golf pro Kent Smith said he expects the weather to hold off in time for the championship to be completed.
“We got like 2 inches of rain so it was too wet (Tuesday),” Smith said. “We pushed it back until (Wednesday).”
The original start time was pushed back an hour from 9 a.m. to accommodate for the soggy conditions on the course. A total of twelve male and female participants are expected to compete in the championship. Wednesday’s forecast calls for mostly sunny skies with a high of 84 degrees. If the weather does not cooperate this week, there are no concrete plans on when the tournament would resume.
“Nothing is for certain yet,” Smith said. “We’re just going to play it by ear.”
