The Vicksburg Theatre Guild is breaking ground on an expansion to the Parkside Playhouse Theatre, which is located at 101 Iowa Blvd.
“This is one more step in the progress of improving the theatre to make it more audience friendly and improve our artistic capabilities,” said Paul Ballard, the president of the VTG.
The 320-square-foot expansion will enlarge the ladies restroom and add storage for costumes he said.
“We’ve known for a long time that we have needed to expand the restrooms, “ Ballard said —the expansion will allow female audience members to process through the restroom faster during the 15-minute intermissions.
The expansion has been made possible with seed money the VTG made with its recent productions, Ballard said, but the group is still seeking donations to complete the project.
“Les Misérables,” a musical based on the novel of the same name by French poet and novelist Victor Hugo, is scheduled to begin in August.
Other upcoming shows include “The Ponder Heart,” “Oliver!” and “Smoke and Mirrors.”
