The Vicksburg Convention Center has a new website offering more information on the center, biographies on its staff and a better calendar of events.
The convention center staff premiered the new site designed by Lauchlin Fields of Vicksburg Wednesday morning at the meeting of the center’s advisory board.
“This is a clean, modern design that is more user-friendly, it better shows off the center,” Fields said, adding the center’s previous website was 15 years old.
The new site includes pages that discuss the center’s history, planning for events, facilities and a calendar of events that can be enlarged by clicking on an icon. The convention center floor plans can also be expanded by clicking on a selected diagram, and photographs of the facilities are also available.
Each page has a “sidebar” containing subtitles that can be used to access other pages on the site. Also included are directions to the center and access to other websites like the Vicksburg Convention and Visitors Bureau and the City of Vicksburg, which will highlight sites and activities in the city.
“I think it will make it a lot easier for people to navigate through the website,” she said. “The convention center has always had a good presence on the Internet, and that will continue (with the new website).”
In other action, the advisory board learned total revenue for the convention center was 40 percent, or $55,398 under budget — $83,444 as opposed to $138,842, while expenses for the third quarter were above budget at $232,702.
The lodging tax for the second quarter, which represents January, February and March, was $149,326.
