Giving back to a girl fighting for her life was the goal of the Afton Wallace car wash on Saturday. The fundraiser held in the Dillard’s parking lot at Vicksburg Mall and raised over $1,000 for Afton’s medical expenses. The senior class of Warren Central organized the event although many others participated.
Many were amazed by the sheer amount of support this event was given.
“I just think it’s so awesome that there are so many people who care and willing to sacrifice for her. If it was anyone else she would be doing the same,” said fellow senior Kaylor Bell.
Afton arrived home from her fifth session of chemotherapy on Friday. In a few weeks she will go in for a PET scan to see how this treatment has been affecting her body.
“What hasn’t changed is her constant positivity and determination to make it to remission,” said Katie Schroeder, a friend of Afton’s.
Students not only participated in this event for Afton but teachers as well. Andrea Fairchild, who has taught Afton before, fully believes in giving back as much as possible.
“When you have kids who work hard and get struck with something like this you can’t give back enough.”
