Woman held in prescription fraud

A Hazlehurst woman accused of obtaining a prescription pad and writing her own prescriptions for painkillers was held without bail this morning in the Warren County Jail.

LaShonda Coleman, 27, 1200 Barker Lane, Hazlehurst, was arrested Wednesday and charged with eight counts of acquisition of a controlled substance by fraud, Sheriff Martin Pace said.

Coleman used a stolen prescription pad in May to obtain 180 hydrocodone tablets, 180 Xanax and 8 ouches of Phenergan with codeine, Pace said.

“She was writing her own prescriptions and passing them at local drug stores,” Pace said.

The case that was investigated by the sheriff’s department and the Drug Enforcement Administration, Pace said.

Coleman was held without bail this morning awaiting her initial court appearance.
